Fort Aguada, Candolim
This amazing fort is just 16 kms from Panjim town. This fort was built by the Portuguese in 1609-1612, to command the entry into the river Mandovi, in order to protect Old Goa from potential enemy attacks. A spring within the fort provided water supply to the ships that called there. The fort presently houses the central jail. A lighthouse is situated nearby, the visiting hours for it being 16.00 to 17.00 hrs. |

Chapora Fort
Located 10 km out of Mapusa, it has a splendid view of nearby Anjuna and Vagator beaches. The fort (built high on top of a hill) which was in the hands of Muslim rulers before the Portuguese wrested it, has some interesting ruins. |

Basilica of Bom Jesus
Located in Old Goa and built in 1605, this site is now declared a World Heritage Monument. The church houses the sacred relics of St. Francis Xavier, patron saint of Goa, who died while on a sea voyage to China on December 2, 1552. The following year, while transferring his remains to Goa, in accordance with his wishes, it was found that the saint's body was as fresh as it was on the day it was buried. This miraculous phenomenon continues to attract the devout of all lands and an exposition or public viewing of his body every ten years attracts lakhs of pilgrims. |
